It depends which country you are a citizen of. Cyprus is part of the EU meaning anyone from the EU does NOT need a Visa. If you are from a 3rd party country you can enter and stay for a maximum of 90 days in any 180 days, visa-free.
Cyprus is cheaper than Western Europe but pricier than Eastern Europe. Local produce is cheap but as an island some items have to be imported which raises their cost. Also if you walk away from the main tourist areas you will find cheaper food and drinks.
The Euro (€) is the currency of the Republic of Cyprus.
Cypriot Greek is the native language with English widely spoken in most areas. Russian and chinese are also spoken in many tourist resorts.
Larnaca is usually used for the eastern end of the island and Paphos for the western areas. However, the drive between the two airports is about an hour in a hire car, we often use Larnaca as it has more scheduled flights and often better timing.

Yes, they do, the same as in the UK. Also,most road signs are in greek and english and the driving rules are broadly the same as those in the UK.
Yes, you can cross at official checkpoints. Be aware that you CANNOT drive your hire car in to the occupied North and entering via Ercan airport is legally restricted by the Republic of Cyprus.
